The short version
The files you open in these tools stay on your device. They are never uploaded to me, never stored by me and never seen by me. I have no server that could receive them.
What I do see is ordinary website traffic: which pages were visited, roughly from where, and on what kind of device. Advertising and analytics scripts from other companies also run on these pages. Their data practices are their own.
Who I am
This policy covers oneplacetool.com and every page on it. For any privacy question, write to hello@oneplacetool.com.
Your files
Every tool on this site runs as JavaScript in your browser. When you pick a file, your browser reads it into memory on your own device. The resizing, merging or calculating happens there, and the result is handed back to you as a download. The file is never sent over the network. Nothing is kept after you close the tab, because I never receive a copy in the first place.
You can check this yourself. Open your browser's network tab while using a tool, or disconnect from the internet after the page has loaded. The tools keep working.
What the text you type is used for
Text you enter into a counter, converter or calculator is handled the same way. That includes salary figures, loan amounts and personal writing. It stays in the page, is never transmitted, and is discarded when you reload or close the tab.
Cookies and similar technologies
- Your settings. If you switch to dark mode, that choice is saved in your browser's local storage on your own device. It is not a cookie and is not sent anywhere. You can remove it by clearing site data.
- Analytics. I use privacy-focused traffic measurement to count page views and see which tools people use. Where Google Analytics is used, it sets cookies. It collects a truncated IP address, device and browser information, and the pages visited.
- Advertising. Ads are served by Google AdSense. Google and its partners may set cookies or read device identifiers to serve and measure ads. That includes personalised ads where you have consented to them.
Ads are not switched on for every page at all times. Where they are, the ad units are marked and the scripts are loaded from Google's own domains.
Google advertising
Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your previous visits to this and other websites. Google's use of advertising cookies lets it and its partners serve you ads based on your visits to this site and others.
You can opt out of personalised advertising at Google Ads Settings. You can also read how Google handles data on its partner sites page.
Consent
Visitors from the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and Switzerland see a consent message before any advertising or analytics cookies are set. This is required by the ePrivacy rules and the GDPR. You can change or withdraw that choice at any time, through the privacy settings link in the consent message.
Your rights
These apply to everyone, wherever you are. Because the tools run on your own device, there is very little to use them on. I hold no files and no account, and I do not have your name or email address unless you write to me. What follows covers the limited traffic and advertising data described above.
- Access. You may ask what personal data I hold about you. In most cases the answer is that I hold nothing that identifies you.
- Correction and erasure. You may ask for anything I do hold to be corrected or deleted.
- Withdrawing consent. Where you gave consent for advertising or analytics cookies, you can change or withdraw it at any time. Use the privacy settings link in the consent message, and clear existing cookies in your browser.
- Complaint. Write to hello@oneplacetool.com. I aim to respond within 30 days. You may also complain to the data protection authority where you live.
Regional additions
Some places grant rights on top of the above. The ones I am asked about most:
- EEA, UK and Switzerland (GDPR). You also have the right to restrict or object to processing, and the right to data portability. My lawful basis is consent for advertising and analytics cookies, and legitimate interest for keeping the site running and secure.
- India (DPDP Act, 2023). I act as a Data Fiduciary for the limited data described above. It is used only to keep the site working, to see which tools are useful, and to fund the site through advertising. Send grievances to the address above with "DPDP" in the subject line.
- California (CCPA/CPRA). I do not sell or share personal information. I do not use it for cross-context behavioural advertising beyond what the advertising section above describes. You will not be treated differently for exercising any right.
If your country gives you a right not listed here, it still applies. Ask and I will honour it.
Children
This site is not aimed at children. I do not knowingly collect personal data from anyone below the age at which consent is required where they live.
Data I share
I do not sell personal data. I do not share it with anyone beyond the analytics and advertising providers named above, who act under their own privacy policies.
Links to other sites
Pages here link to official exam notifications, government portals and reference material. Once you follow a link, that site's privacy policy applies, not this one.
Changes to this policy
If the site's data practices change, this page is updated and the date at the top changes. An example would be advertising being switched on, or a new analytics provider being added.
